Srinagar, June 27: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday appealed to civil society groups, business leaders, religious heads and the public to actively support the forthcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, describing the annual pilgrimage as a symbol of social harmony, faith and service.
Addressing an interaction with representatives of civil society, trade bodies, religious organisations and other stakeholders in Srinagar, the Lieutenant Governor urged all sections of society to contribute towards ensuring a safe and memorable experience for pilgrims visiting the Amarnath cave shrine.
The annual pilgrimage is scheduled to commence on July 3 and conclude on August 28.
Sinha said the Yatra offered an opportunity to showcase Jammu & Kashmir’s traditions of selfless service, compassion and hospitality. He called for collective efforts to make the pilgrimage a model of faith, unity and devotion.
The Lieutenant Governor said the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra has shaped the region’s faith, culture and identity for generations and continues to attract devotees from across India and abroad. He said the pilgrimage reflects the spirit of communal harmony, with people from different faiths and backgrounds participating in arrangements and services for pilgrims.
He emphasized that civil society members, religious leaders, social workers and business representatives play an important role in preserving the spiritual heritage associated with the pilgrimage and ensuring that visitors experience safety, respect and a sense of belonging.
Referring to arrangements made for the Yatra, Sinha said the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board and various government agencies have undertaken measures in recent years to improve infrastructure and pilgrim facilities. He said roads have been widened, communication systems strengthened and other facilities modernised to make the pilgrimage smoother and safer.
During the interaction, representatives of civil society and other stakeholders expressed support for the successful conduct of the Yatra. They appreciated the improvements made in infrastructure, security, healthcare, sanitation and pilgrim services over the past few years, stating that these measures had enhanced the overall pilgrimage experience.
The participants also shared suggestions regarding the conduct of the Yatra. The Lieutenant Governor assured them that all genuine recommendations would be examined for possible implementation.
The meeting was attended by MLAs Altaf Ahmad Wani, Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi and Mian Mehar Ali; Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat; Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor and Chief Executive Officer of the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandari; Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg; Inspector General of Police Kashmir V.K. Birdi; deputy commissioners, senior officials, representatives of religious and social organisations, trade and business associations, and other members of civil society.
