Srinagar, June 11: The Board of Directors of the Jammu and Kashmir Road Transport Corporation (JKRTC) on Thursday approved the implementation of 7th Pay Commission scales for corporation employees, addressing a long-pending demand of the workforce.
The decision was taken during the 88th meeting of the JKRTC Board chaired by Transport Minister Satish Sharma at the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar.
The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary Finance Shailendra Kumar, Commissioner Secretary Housing and Urban Development Mandeep Kaur, Secretary Transport Avny Lavasa, JKRTC Managing Director A.R. War and other board members and officials.
Apart from approving the revised pay scales, the Board gave in-principle approval to promotions of various officers of the corporation and cleared a revised wage structure for consolidated drivers.
The Board also directed the corporation to settle all pending gratuity and pension claims of retired employees. It further instructed JKRTC to formulate a welfare policy for the next of kin of employees who die while in service.
During the meeting, the Board reviewed the minutes of the previous meeting and examined the action taken report. It also assessed the corporation’s physical and financial performance, focusing on operational efficiency, revenue generation and the expansion of public transport services across Jammu and Kashmir.
The proposed budget for 2026-27 also came up for discussion, with deliberations centred on asset monetisation, revenue enhancement and optimal utilisation of resources.
The Board reviewed progress on the procurement of 200 electric buses under the PM e-Drive Scheme and discussed the disposal of auctioned vehicles.
Addressing the meeting, Sharma stressed the importance of JKRTC in providing affordable, reliable and efficient transport services to the public. He called for a result-oriented approach to transform the corporation into a modern, financially sustainable and passenger-friendly organisation.
The minister directed officials to prepare a comprehensive roadmap for modernising transport infrastructure, improving passenger amenities and adopting digital technologies to enhance efficiency and customer experience.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening public transport, Sharma said JKRTC would receive all necessary support to emerge as a vibrant and self-sustaining organisation capable of meeting the growing mobility needs of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
