New Delhi, June 4: Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada on Thursday said India continues to remain among the world’s fastest-growing major economies despite prevailing global uncertainties, attributing the country’s performance to a long-term strategy focused on trade, manufacturing, innovation and technology.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Global Business Research Conference (GBRC) 2026 at the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), Prasada said India’s progress in sectors such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors and global trade partnerships reflects its expanding role in the international economy.
The two-day conference, themed “Managing Business Amidst Worldwide Turbulence,” has brought together academicians, policymakers, researchers, management educators and industry experts from India and abroad to discuss emerging challenges and opportunities in the global business environment.
Prasada highlighted the contribution of institutions like IIFT in generating research-based policy insights, developing future business leaders and supporting India’s integration with global markets. He expressed confidence that the deliberations at the conference would contribute to policymaking and economic growth.
IIFT Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rakesh Mohan Joshi said the institute has expanded its international collaborations and research footprint while strengthening its position as a centre of excellence in international business education and policy research.
He noted that geopolitical developments, changing trade dynamics and rapid technological advancements, particularly in artificial intelligence, are reshaping the global business landscape. In such an environment, he said, research and evidence-based policy inputs have become increasingly important for economic resilience and competitiveness.
The conference features a series of Directors’ Conclaves focusing on internationalisation strategies for business schools, the use of artificial intelligence in management education, innovation and entrepreneurship, and evolving pedagogical approaches in a changing geopolitical environment.
Researchers are presenting papers across disciplines including finance, marketing, management and strategy, global trade, supply chain management, information technology, analytics, public policy and governance through multiple technical sessions.
A special session on “BRICS Amid Geopolitical Turbulence in a Multipolar World” is also being held to examine the role of BRICS economies in shaping the future global economic order and international trade architecture.
The conference includes a dedicated Doctoral Colloquium aimed at providing research scholars an opportunity to interact with senior academics and domain experts and strengthen scholarly collaboration.
Several academic leaders from premier institutions, including the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), IIT Bombay, Indian School of Business (ISB), Management Development Institute (MDI), BIMTECH, Delhi School of Economics, Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, IILM University and Jindal Global Business School, are participating in the event.
The conference will conclude on June 5 with a valedictory session, presentation of recommendations and awards for outstanding research papers, poster presentations and doctoral research contributions.
