Kishtwar, June 28: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Jammu and Kashmir, has submitted a comprehensive development proposal to Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Pankaj Kumar Sharma, urging immediate attention to key infrastructure and public service sectors, with scientific solid waste management emerging as its top priority.
The representation was submitted by CII J&K Infrastructure Panel Convenor Er. Sahil Sharma on behalf of CII J&K Chairman Iqram Ali Shafiee.
According to CII, the memorandum identifies several sectors requiring focused intervention, including infrastructure development, drinking water supply, tourism, power reliability, agriculture and horticulture. However, discussions during the meeting primarily centred on establishing a modern and sustainable solid waste management system for the district.
CII representatives said the absence of a structured mechanism for waste collection, segregation, processing and scientific disposal has emerged as a major environmental and public health challenge in Kishtwar. They recommended the creation of an integrated solid waste management system incorporating source segregation, scientific processing and disposal facilities, improved sanitation infrastructure and sustained public awareness campaigns to encourage responsible waste disposal.
Er. Sahil Sharma said Kishtwar’s rich natural landscape and growing tourism potential make effective waste management essential for achieving sustainable development.
Besides waste management, the industry body recommended improved road connectivity to the remote areas of Warwan, Marwah and Dachhan, strengthening of drinking water infrastructure, development of tourism facilities, ensuring a reliable power supply and modernising the agriculture and horticulture sectors through improved irrigation, cold storage facilities and stronger market linkages.
Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Sharma appreciated CII’s initiative in identifying key developmental challenges and presenting practical, solution-oriented recommendations for the district.
He acknowledged the constructive role played by CII in supporting the developmental agenda of Jammu and Kashmir and assured the delegation of the district administration’s full cooperation in taking forward the proposed initiatives. The Deputy Commissioner said collaborative efforts between the administration and industry bodies are essential for achieving sustainable and inclusive development.
