Kashmir businessman caught at Delhi Airport with Rs 15 lakhs cash

Srinagar: A businessman arriving at Srinagar International Airport from Chennai was found carrying nearly ₹15 lakh in cash during routine checking by the Income Tax Unit on Saturday, officials said.

The passenger was identified as K. Ahmed, who had travelled from Chennai to Delhi on flight AI-2832 and later boarded flight AI-1739 from Delhi to Srinagar.

According to officials, the cash was detected during checking by the Income Tax Unit stationed at the airport.

During questioning, Khan reportedly told authorities that he has been engaged in the handicrafts business in Chennai for the past 40 years. He also stated that the money was being brought for expenses related to a family marriage function.

The cash was subsequently seized by the authorities for verification and completion of legal formalities.

Officials said the businessman has been asked to appear before the Income Tax Office at Samandar Bagh in Srinagar on Monday for further proceedings.
