J&K Govt enhances DA for employees under 6th Pay Commission

Srinagar, May 15: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has approved an increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for government employees continuing to draw their salaries under the 6th Pay Commission pay structure.

According to a government order issued by the Finance Department (Codes Division), Civil Secretariat Jammu/Srinagar, the DA has been revised from the existing rate of 257 percent of basic pay to 262 percent of basic pay with effect from January 1, 2026.

The order, issued under Government Order No. 192-F of 2026 dated May 15, 2026, states that the decision was taken in continuation of Government Order No. 274-F of 2025 dated October 28, 2025, following the approval of the Council of Ministers vide Decision No. 066/06/2026 dated April 30, 2026.

As per the order, arrears on account of the additional DA installment from January 2026 to April 2026 in respect of serving government employees will be credited into their General Provident Fund (GPF) accounts as monthly installments. However, employees covered under the New Pension Scheme (NPS) will receive the arrears in cash.

The government further stated that the revised DA will form part of the monthly salary from May 2026 onwards.

The order also clarified that payment involving fractions of 50 paise and above will be rounded off to the next higher rupee, while fractions below 50 paise will be ignored.

The order has been issued by Shailendra Kumar (IAS), Financial Commissioner (Additional Chief Secretary), Finance Department.
