‘Healer in Exile: The Untold Story of Dr Sushil Razdan’ released at event attended by leaders across political spectrum

Ziraat Times Team Report

Srinagar, May 2: A book chronicling the life of noted neurologist Dr. Sushil Razdan was launched here on Saturday in a first-of-its-kind event in many years that brought together prominent political, religious and social figures from across Jammu & Kashmir.

The book, Healer in Exile: The Untold Story of Dr Sushil Razdan, authored by his son Sachin Razdan, recounts the eminent doctor’s journey — a Kashmiri Pandit who continued to serve patients with compassion despite the challenges of displacement. It highlights his clinical excellence, ethical practice, and lifelong commitment to healthcare in the region.

Dr. Farooq Abdullah, National Conference president spoke warmly about Dr. Razdan and broader issues of unity. He emphasized that “Kashmir belongs to all communities, including Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs,” and called for collective efforts to rebuild trust and ensure peace. Abdullah stressed that differences based on religion weaken society and urged people to live and work together. He flagged what he described as a ‘dangerous’ communal rift that external forces could exploit.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the Hurriyat Conference chairman and religious leader, also addressed the gathering. He praised Dr. Razdan as “the best in the country, a very good doctor and a truly humane person,” offering prayers for his continued service and well-being.

Mushtaq Chaya, chairman of J&K Hoteliers Club and the event host, echoed similar sentiments, describing Dr. Razdan as an asset to the nation and highlighting his humane qualities.

Other notable attendees included former union minister and senior Congress leader, Saif-ud-din Soz, Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather, J&K Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Akshay Labroo, Srinagar Deputy Commissioner and Iltija Mufti (daughter of PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti), former minister and senior PDP leader Naeem Akhtar, veteran journalist Mohammed Syeed Malik and other prominent personalities from social, administrative and religious circles.

The Srinagar launch follows the book’s formal unveiling by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in Jammu on April 29, 2026. In his address there, the LG lauded Dr. Razdan as one of India’s leading neurologists whose contributions remain unmatched.

LG Sinha had said: “The story of Dr Sushil Razdan’s life conveys a significant lesson of committing yourself to the selfless service of others. It is a sacred duty to place the needs of the person before you above your own and see society not merely as a city or village, but as a community of responsibilities…”

Dr. Sushil Razdan, present at the Srinagar event, has been widely recognized for examining thousands  of patients across Jammu & Kashmir and beyond, including at institutions like SKIMS Soura in Srinagar. The book, published by BlueRose Publishers, is described as a memoir rooted in service, healing, and commitment to his homeland.

The gathering was seen as a rare display of unity across political and community lines in Kashmir, with speakers using the occasion to celebrate not just one doctor’s legacy but the shared ethos of the state.  Attendees described Dr. Razdan as an icon who embodies the best of Kashmiri values — professionalism, empathy and resilience in the face of adversity.

The event concluded on a note of hope, with calls for preserving Kashmir’s composite culture and supporting figures who have dedicated their lives to public service amid challenging times. The book is now available for purchase.
