Gulmarg Gondola Upgrade on Agenda as CM Chairs JKCCC Board Meeting

Gulmarg, May 6: Omar Abdullah on Wednesday chaired a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Jammu and Kashmir Cable Car Corporation at the Convention Centre in Gulmarg, reviewing key projects and stressing the need for timely execution and modernisation to cater to rising tourist inflow.

During the meeting, the Managing Director of the corporation presented a detailed agenda along with a comprehensive review of ongoing and proposed initiatives. The Board held in-depth deliberations on various agenda items, with a key focus on upgrading the Gulmarg Gondola project.

Officials said the proposed upgradation aims to enhance the gondola’s carrying capacity, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen safety standards through modern infrastructure.

Emphasising the importance of tourism as a driver of economic growth, the Chief Minister called for the adoption of advanced technology and strict adherence to safety norms. He stressed that timely completion of projects is essential to meet the growing demand from tourists and to further strengthen the region’s tourism infrastructure.

The meeting was attended by Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Dheeraj Gupta, and Additional Chief Secretary, Tourism Ashish Chandra Verma.

Also present were Managing Director of Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation Shreya Singhal, Director Tourism Kashmir and Managing Director JKCCC Syed Sajad Qamar, Director Tourism Jammu Vikas Gupta, along with other senior officials including the CEO of the Gulmarg Development Authority.

Officials said the review forms part of the government’s broader push to upgrade tourism infrastructure and ensure that facilities keep pace with increasing visitor numbers in Jammu and Kashmir.
