Chief Secretary inaugurates Centre for Good Governance at IUST

Awantipora, May 21: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo on Wednesday inaugurated the Centre for Good Governance and Policy Analysis (CGG&PA) at Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), highlighting the university’s growing role in academic innovation, policy research and institutional collaboration.

During his visit to the university, Dulloo toured Campus I and Campus III and inspected various academic facilities and laboratories. He also interacted with faculty members and university officials.

The Chief Secretary appreciated the efforts of the university’s faculty and staff in advancing academic and research activities, particularly the introduction of programmes in frontier sciences and artificial intelligence aligned with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

He also lauded the university’s initiatives aimed at strengthening industry linkages, promoting research and fostering innovation-driven collaborations.

Congratulating Vice Chancellor Shakil A Romshoo and his team for the institution’s achievements, Dulloo expressed confidence that the newly inaugurated Centre for Good Governance and Policy Analysis would further enhance the university’s contribution to evidence-based policymaking and institutional development.

He said the university possessed significant potential to contribute towards improving ease of living through meaningful partnerships with the government and national-level institutions.

Speaking on the occasion, Shakil A Romshoo highlighted the university’s achievements and outlined its broader vision for academic excellence, innovation and public engagement.

He said the university had emerged as an active contributor to several flagship national missions through initiatives in sustainability, emerging technologies, entrepreneurship, healthcare and community development.

Romshoo also thanked the government for its continued support, stating that it had enabled the university to strengthen its academic and research ecosystem while expanding its engagement with industry and society.

Earlier, Director of the Centre for Good Governance and Policy Analysis, G. N. Itoo, said the centre would function as a platform for promoting interdisciplinary research, evidence-based policymaking and collaboration between academia, government institutions and society.

A documentary showcasing the university’s academic, research, innovation and outreach initiatives was also screened during the event.
