New Delhi, May 13: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday approved higher Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for 14 Kharif crops for the 2026-27 marketing season, aiming to ensure remunerative prices for farmers and encourage crop diversification.

According to the government, the highest absolute increase in MSP over the previous year was approved for sunflower seed at ₹622 per quintal, followed by cotton at ₹557 per quintal, nigerseed at ₹515 per quintal and sesamum at ₹500 per quintal.

The MSP for common paddy has been fixed at ₹2,441 per quintal for the 2026-27 season, an increase of ₹72 over the previous year. Grade A paddy has been fixed at ₹2,461 per quintal.

Among pulses, the MSP for tur/arhar has been raised to ₹8,450 per quintal, moong to ₹8,780 per quintal and urad to ₹8,200 per quintal.

For oilseeds, sunflower seed MSP has been fixed at ₹8,343 per quintal, soybean at ₹5,708, sesamum at ₹10,346 and groundnut at ₹7,517 per quintal.

For cotton, the MSP for medium staple cotton has been fixed at ₹8,267 per quintal, while long staple cotton has been fixed at ₹8,667 per quintal.

The government said the revised MSPs were in line with the Union Budget 2018-19 announcement that MSPs would be fixed at least 1.5 times the all-India weighted average cost of production.

Officials stated that farmers are expected to receive the highest margin over production cost in moong at 61 per cent, followed by bajra and maize at 56 per cent each, and tur/arhar at 54 per cent. The remaining crops are expected to provide margins of around 50 per cent over production cost.

The Centre said it has been promoting cultivation of pulses, oilseeds and nutri-cereals or “Shree Anna” in recent years by offering comparatively higher MSP increases for these crops.

Government data showed that procurement of paddy increased to 8,418 lakh metric tonnes during 2014-15 to 2025-26 compared to 4,590 lakh metric tonnes during 2004-05 to 2013-14.

Similarly, procurement of all 14 Kharif crops rose to 8,746 lakh metric tonnes during 2014-15 to 2025-26 compared to 4,679 lakh metric tonnes in the preceding ten-year period.

The government also stated that MSP payments made to paddy farmers increased to ₹16.08 lakh crore during 2014-15 to 2025-26, while total MSP payments to growers of 14 Kharif crops rose to ₹18.99 lakh crore during the same period.
