KTMF (AK) hosts GeM Workshop to push digital integration of Kashmir traders

Srinagar, Apr 7: The Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation  (Abrar Khan group) on Tuesday organised a one-day workshop in Srinagar aimed at integrating local businesses with the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal, in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Rotary Club Kashmir.

According to a press release issued to Ziraat Times, the workshop sought to equip traders and manufacturers with the tools and knowledge required to transition into digital procurement systems and directly supply goods and services to government departments across India.

Participants were provided with a step-by-step roadmap for onboarding onto the GeM platform, including guidance on e-bidding, procurement cycles, and compliance requirements. The initiative is part of broader efforts to align local businesses with national digital commerce frameworks.

Chairman of the KTMF (AK), Abrar Ahmed Khan, stressed the need for rapid digital adoption within the trading community, describing GeM integration as critical for ensuring transparency and expanding market access.

President Hilal Ahmed Mandoo said the federation aims to act as a bridge between the government and the business community, ensuring traders are equipped with the technical know-how to participate effectively in government tenders.

Guest of Honour Parvez Ahmed Mir, who heads the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development (CIED) at Islamic University of Science and Technology, highlighted the importance of innovation and product refinement. He urged entrepreneurs to leverage institutional support systems to compete at the national level.

The event witnessed participation from several trade leaders and representatives, including Patron Shahid Jilani, Senior Vice President Sufi Mayuddin, General Secretary Khalid Ahmed Baba, and other office bearers and organisers of the federation.

Members of South City Traders and representatives of KTMF Humanities / Salute 72 were also present, alongside participants from various trade bodies across the Valley.

Technical sessions, supported by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, focused on onboarding processes, expanding market access under the Make in India initiative, and enhancing technical capacity among local entrepreneurs.

Organisers said the workshop marks a step toward integrating Kashmir’s business ecosystem into India’s digital procurement network, though sustained training and handholding will be required to ensure meaningful participation, especially among smaller traders with limited digital capacity.
