Srinagar: The PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Sunday raised several issues affecting the industrial ecosystem in Kashmir during a high-level review meeting chaired by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg.
The chamber was represented by its Co-Chair Himayu Wani along with Shabir Abdullah, who highlighted concerns facing micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), tourism-related businesses and industrial development in the region.
MSME Support Sought Amid Global Uncertainty
During the meeting, PHDCCI stressed the need for support to MSMEs in view of global economic uncertainties arising from the ongoing Middle East conflict. The chamber called for proactive measures such as interest subvention and engagement with financial institutions to ease financial stress on small and medium enterprises.
The delegation also urged policy interventions to protect the MSME workforce and prevent job losses, stressing the importance of safeguarding livelihoods in the sector.
LPG Supply and Tourism Concerns
Highlighting the approaching tourism season, the chamber emphasized the need to ensure uninterrupted supply of LPG cylinders, particularly for the commercial sector, which plays a vital role in the regional economy.
Industrial Development Issues Raised
PHDCCI also pointed out that the vacant post of General Manager at the District Industries Centre Srinagar is affecting daily industrial operations and requested the administration to make an urgent appointment.
The chamber further raised concerns over delays in the establishment of proposed industrial estates, including those planned at Nowgam and Sopore, which remain pending with the revenue department. It sought expedited clearance and implementation of these projects.
Call to Resolve Tourism Infrastructure Bottlenecks
Another key issue discussed during the meeting was delays in approvals related to Change of Land Use (CLU) and other infrastructure bottlenecks affecting tourism projects. PHDCCI urged authorities to review and resolve these matters on priority to boost tourism-related investments.
Officials said the Divisional Commissioner and the Director of Industries gave a patient hearing to the issues raised and assured their support in addressing the concerns of the industry. The chamber expressed hope that the matters highlighted would receive due consideration and prompt action from the administration.
