Srinagar: Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday underscored the cultural, historical and emotional significance of Downtown Srinagar, describing it as the soul of Kashmir that deserves care, respect and renewal.
In a statement issued after Kath Bath reached the Downtown area, Mehbooba Mufti said the historic heart of Srinagar continues to live through its artisans, traditions and centuries-old heritage. She remarked that every lane of Downtown narrates a story of Kashmir’s rich past and enduring cultural identity.
“Downtown is not just streets and walls. It is the soul of Kashmir,” she said, adding that the area represents living history shaped by generations of skilled artisans and community life.
Emphasising the need for preservation and sensitive development, Mehbooba Mufti called for renewed attention towards safeguarding the heritage, livelihoods and social fabric of Downtown Srinagar. She said meaningful care and respect for the area are essential to ensure its legacy is carried forward for future generations.
