New Delhi, Feb 12: The Department of Horticulture Planning and Marketing, Jammu & Kashmir, on Wednesday organised a one-day Buyer–Seller Meet at Hotel Samrat in the national capital to strengthen market linkages for horticulture and allied produce from the Union Territory.
Around 80 progressive farmers, growers and traders representing all 20 districts of Jammu and Kashmir participated in the event, facilitated by the Department. The meet brought together prominent traders from Azadpur Mandi, Khari Baoli, Naya Bazar, and neighbouring states such as Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, as well as Hyderabad-based businesses dealing in fruits, vegetables, dry fruits, pulses and processed food products.
The interactions between visiting farmers and national-level traders led to the establishment of new trade linkages and opened up fresh business opportunities for horticulture stakeholders from the UT.
Director, Horticulture Planning and Marketing, J&K, Shri Ghulam Jeelani Zargar, welcomed the participants and delivered a detailed presentation showcasing the region’s diverse agricultural and horticultural produce. He highlighted the quality advantages of J&K products and emphasised their export potential across domestic and international markets.
Senior officials from key institutions also addressed the gathering. These included General Manager, Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), Mrs. Vinita Sudhanshu; Regional Manager, APEDA, Mrs. Sehreen; Deputy Agricultural Marketing Advisor (DMI), Mr. B. K. Prushty; Deputy Director, National Horticulture Board (NHB); and representatives from Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and CA store operators. They deliberated on market expansion strategies, export promotion measures and strengthening of the horticulture value chain.
Participants from the farming community, trade bodies and government departments appreciated the Department’s initiative and called for more such Buyer–Seller Meets to enhance market access and income opportunities for farmers and entrepreneurs in Jammu and Kashmir.
