Snowfall affects life in Kashmir; highway shut, flights & trains cancelled

Srinagar: Fresh snowfall across the Kashmir Valley on Tuesday disrupted road, rail and air services, throwing normal life out of gear.

The Srinagar–Jammu National Highway has been closed due to heavy snowfall near the Navyug Tunnel, with traffic suspended from both Jammu and Srinagar sides. Other major routes, including the Mughal Road, Srinagar–Sonamarg–Gumri Road and Sinthan Pass, have also been shut.

Rail services were partially affected, with two passenger trains cancelled. Train operations between Banihal and Budgam were suspended due to snowfall.

Air travel faced major disruption as poor visibility led to the cancellation of 25 flights at Srinagar Airport.

Authorities have advised commuters to avoid unnecessary travel, stay in touch with airlines for updates, and follow official traffic advisories until weather conditions improve.
