Srinagar: Kashmir Traders & Manufacturers Federation (KTMF) has welcomed the announcement by the Government of Jammu & Kashmir that there will be no general increase in electricity tariffs for 2025–26 and that the Time of Day (ToD) tariff will remain unchanged.
In a statement issued to Ziraat Times, KTMF President Mohammad Yaseen Khan said they view this decision as a positive and much needed relief for traders, manufacturers, small businesses and households, especially at a time when input costs across sectors remain under pressure. Affordable and predictable electricity pricing is a key enabler for economic stability and business confidence in the region.
Khan said, “importantly KTMF also expresses satisfaction that Jammu & Kashmir did not witness any routine power curtailment schedules, which for decades had been a harsh reality for businesses and consumers alike. The absence of regular, pre announced power cuts marks a improved shift from the past and has contributed to smoother business operations, reduced losses and improved quality of life”.
“For decades, curtailment schedules were treated as a norm in Kashmir, severely impacting trade, industry and daily life. It is encouraging to see a move away from that legacy,” Khan said.
KTMF hopes that the government will continue to focus on strengthening power infrastructure, improving distribution efficiency and ensuring uninterrupted supply, particularly during peak winter and business hours, so that economic activity in J&K can grow sustainably.
