PLISFPI Driving MSME Participation in Food Processing Sector, MoFPI informs Rajya Sabha

Ziraat Times News Desk

New Delhi, Dec 5:
The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) has reported smooth operations under the Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing Industries (PLISFPI), with no operational challenges observed among approved units, according to a written reply tabled in the Rajya Sabha on Friday.

The Ministry said the scheme continues to boost value-chain efficiency and support the participation of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in food processing. Of the approved beneficiaries, 69 applicants and 40 contract manufacturers belong to the MSME sector, highlighting the scheme’s focus on encouraging smaller enterprises to diversify into new and value-added food products.

MoFPI noted that, in addition to PLISFPI support, micro enterprises also receive assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme and the Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY), helping strengthen the ecosystem for small-scale food processing units.

The Ministry stated that the scheme has accelerated the adoption of advanced technologies across eligible units, enabling the creation of multiple production lines for varied food processing categories. As a result, the country has seen the addition of 35 lakh metric tonnes per annum of food processing capacity.

The scheme has also contributed significantly to employment generation, with about 3.39 lakh direct and indirect jobs created under PLISFPI so far.

The information was provided by Minister of State for Food Processing Industries, Shri Ravneet Singh, during the Upper House proceedings.
