New Delhi: The Ministry of Railways has announced that local cuisine reflecting regional tastes will be served on Vande Bharat trains, with plans to gradually extend the initiative to all trains across the network to enhance passenger experience.
The decision was taken during a review meeting chaired by Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, at Rail Bhawan on Friday. Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries, Ravneet Singh Bittu, was also present at the meeting.
Directing railway officials to implement the move, the Minister said offering region-specific food on Vande Bharat trains would allow passengers to experience local culture and culinary traditions while travelling. He added that the initiative would be expanded progressively to cover more trains in the coming phases.
During the meeting, the Minister also reviewed measures taken by Indian Railways to curb ticket booking through fake identities. Officials informed that a crackdown on fake user accounts on the IRCTC platform has started yielding results, with the creation of new user IDs dropping sharply to around 5,000 per day, compared to nearly one lakh new accounts being created daily before the reforms.
According to the Ministry, the introduction of a stricter identity verification system has so far led to the deactivation of 3.03 crore fake user accounts. In addition, around 2.7 crore user IDs have been temporarily suspended or identified for suspension due to suspicious activity.
Both the Union Minister and the Minister of State directed officials to further strengthen the ticketing system to ensure that genuine passengers are able to book tickets easily using authentic user IDs, while preventing misuse through fraudulent accounts.
