Jammu: Elections to constitute the new Executive Committee of the prestigious Amar Singh Club are underway in Jammu on Sunday, drawing participation from the city’s elite members.

A total of 27 candidates are contesting the elections, representing four different groups. Each group has put forward its vision for the future of the club, promising improved facilities, modernisation of infrastructure and better services for members. A club official told Ziraat Times that the club had about 2400 members, a majority of whom are expected to vote and elect the new executive committee.

Polling began earlier in the day and is witnessing steady participation from club members, reflecting keen interest in the leadership and direction of one of Jammu’s most prominent social institutions. The contest is being closely watched, with several candidates campaigning on the plank of change and reforms to enhance the club’s amenities and overall functioning.

Established as an elite social club, the Amar Singh Club holds a prominent place in Jammu’s social and cultural life. The outcome of the election is expected to shape the club’s policies and development initiatives in the coming years.

Amar Singh Club, Jammu was founded by the then Ruler of Jammu & Kashmir State, Maharaja Hari Singh Ji in early 1930’s at Ajaib Ghar, which is today known as the Assembly Hall.

At that time the Maharaja allotted one half of the building for setting up of a museum (therefore, the name- Ajaib Ghar). The other half of the building was converted into a Club, primarily as a meeting place of the Government officers of the Maharaja. A similar institution was started in Srinagar simultaneously, which became Amar Singh Club, Srinagar.
