Srinagar, Dec 29: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Srinagar, in collaboration with Kashmir Concern (NGO), organised an Awareness Programme and Plantation Drive under the Pan India Environmental Legal Literacy and Community Protection Initiative titled “Protect Today, Secure Tomorrow”.
The programme was held at the premises of the District Legal Services Authority, Srinagar, under the chairmanship of Haq Nawaz Zargar, Chairman, DLSA Srinagar and Principal District and Sessions Judge. The initiative aimed to promote environmental awareness, strengthen legal literacy, and encourage community participation in environmental conservation.
The awareness session featured an address by Dr. Touseef Bhat, Social Environmentalist and Chairman, Kashmir Concern, who served as the resource person. He highlighted the growing environmental challenges and emphasized the need for sustainable practices, individual responsibility, and community-led initiatives to protect natural resources. His address underscored the legal and social dimensions of environmental protection and the collective role of citizens in safeguarding the environment for future generations.
Zeenat, Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defence Counsel, DLSA Srinagar, also addressed the gathering and highlighted the role of Legal Services Authorities in promoting environmental justice. She emphasized the importance of legal awareness and access to justice in addressing environmental grievances, particularly at the grassroots level.
The programme witnessed active participation from staff members, Legal Aid Defence Counsels, Para Legal Volunteers of DLSA Srinagar, and volunteers from the collaborating NGO. The event concluded with a plantation drive, reinforcing the collective commitment towards environmental sustainability and the core objective of protecting the environment for a secure future.
