Srinagar, Nov 27 — The Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory Level Bankers’ Committee (UTLBC) will organise mega facilitation camps across four districts on Friday, November 28, to assist citizens in identifying and reclaiming their unclaimed or long-inactive financial assets. The initiative is part of the national campaign “Aap Ki Poonji, Aap Ka Adhikar: Your Money, Your Right”, launched by the Union Ministry of Finance’s Department of Financial Services (DFS) in collaboration with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and financial-sector regulators.

The three-month nationwide drive aims to help individuals and legal heirs trace unclaimed bank deposits, dormant insurance proceeds, inactive mutual fund and dividend accounts, unclaimed shares, and similar financial assets lying with banks, insurance firms, and other financial institutions.

According to officials, facilitation camps will be held in Kupwara, Kathua, Kulgam and Doda, where public representatives, district administrations, bank officials, and financial-sector regulators will guide citizens through verification and claim procedures.

  • Kupwara: The camp will take place at MC Town Hall at 11:15 am, with participation expected from the local MLA, District Development Council Chairperson, and officials from major banks, insurance companies, PFRDA, and government departments.

  • Kathua: Tangri Palace will host the event at 12 noon, where representatives from RBI, LIC, the district administration, and State Level Bankers’ Committee members will assist citizens with on-the-spot verification and processing of claims.

  • Kulgam: A facilitation camp at the Mini Secretariat will begin at 11 am, with MPs, MLAs, RBI officers, district officials, banks, insurance companies, SEBI, PFRDA, and the Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority (IEPFA) expected to participate.

  • Doda: The district camp will be held at the DC Office at 3 pm, where public representatives, officials from RBI, senior district officers, and key financial institutions will help people trace and update records related to unclaimed assets.

District authorities and banks have been conducting awareness drives through BLBC meetings and Financial Literacy Centres (FLCs) to encourage citizens to attend the camps with valid identity proof and relevant supporting documents.

Lead District Managers of all four districts have appealed to residents to take advantage of the outreach initiative to locate, verify and recover financial assets that may have remained unclaimed due to dormant accounts, incomplete documentation, or lack of awareness.

Officials said the campaign is intended to ensure that individuals and rightful beneficiaries regain access to funds that often remain frozen for years due to inactivity.
