Ziraat Times Team Report

New Delhi: The Sixth International Agronomy Congress (IAC–2025), billed as one of the world’s largest assemblies of agronomists, agricultural scientists and policymakers, will be held in the capital from November 24 to 26.

The three-day event, organised at the National Physical Laboratory, Pusa, is being hosted by the Indian Society of Agronomy in partnership with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), the ICAR–Indian Agricultural Research Institute, the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and the Trust for Advancement of Agricultural Sciences.

Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is scheduled to inaugurate the congress. Minister of State Bhagirath Choudhary, senior ICAR officials, and several former Directors General of ICAR will also attend.

Focus on Smart, Climate-Ready Agriculture

The theme for this year’s congress — “Re-envisioning Agronomy for Smart Agro-Food Systems and Environmental Protection” — reflects growing global interest in developing agricultural systems that are more productive, climate-resilient and environmentally sustainable.

The Ministry said that experts from international organisations including FAO, CIMMYT, ICARDA, ICRISAT, IRRI and IFDC, in addition to vice chancellors, industry representatives and agri-business innovators, are expected to participate. More than 1,000 delegates from India and abroad have registered for the event.

Sessions, Exhibitions and Young Scientists’ Forum

The congress will feature plenary talks, thematic sessions, lead lectures, poster presentations and an exhibition of emerging technologies. A dedicated programme for young scientists and students will run alongside the main sessions.

Organisers said discussions will cover topics such as carbon-neutral agriculture, eco-nutrition, regenerative and natural farming, digital agricultural systems, and farmer-led innovation.

Showcase of India’s Initiatives

According to officials, the event will highlight key government programmes aimed at promoting sustainable and climate-smart agriculture. These include the National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture, Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana, the Soil Health Card Scheme, the PM-PRANAM initiative, the Digital Agriculture Mission, the National Mission on Natural Farming and PM-Kisan.
