Udhampur: In a major step toward promoting transparency and accountability in the real estate sector, the Jammu and Kashmir Real Estate Regulatory Authority (JKRERA) on Sunday organized an awareness-cum-sensitization programme on the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016 at the DC Office Complex, Udhampur.
Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Saloni Rai, who was the chief guest on the occasion, handed over the first-ever Real Estate Project Registration Certificate of the district to Universal Housing Colony, Lota Garnai, marking a milestone in Udhampur’s real estate regulation framework.
The event was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Prem Singh, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Dr. Umesh Shan, officials from various departments, and a large number of promoters, real estate agents, and revenue staff.
Addressing the gathering, DC Saloni Rai underscored the importance of the Real Estate Regulatory Authority in ensuring consumer protection, fair practices, and systematic urban development. She called upon all real estate promoters and agents operating in the district to register their projects and business activities with JKRERA as mandated under the Act.
“Planned and regulated development is key to sustainable growth. The administration is committed to facilitating transparency, credibility, and fairness in all real estate dealings,” she said, assuring full administrative support to the sector’s legitimate and ethical development.
Earlier, Deputy Secretary JKRERA, Esha Chib, gave a detailed presentation on the provisions, objectives, and benefits of the RERA Act. She explained the registration process for projects and agents, the grievance redressal mechanisms, and the rights and duties of both promoters and homebuyers under the Act.
She noted that the introduction of RERA in Jammu and Kashmir has significantly enhanced investor confidence, curbed malpractices, and encouraged more structured and transparent real estate operations.
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, during which JKRERA experts addressed various questions from participants regarding compliance procedures and documentation requirements.
The programme forms part of JKRERA’s ongoing initiative to expand awareness and enforcement of real estate regulations across districts, ensuring consumer protection and promoting ethical growth in the housing and property market of Jammu and Kashmir.
