SRINAGAR: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Iltija Mufti has criticized the Jammu and Kashmir Government for what she termed as “criminal delay” in addressing the concerns of Open Merit (OM) students regarding the reservation policy.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Mufti recalled that it has been almost a year since she joined OM students in their protest outside the Chief Minister’s residence, demanding fair treatment in government recruitment processes.

She alleged that despite repeated assurances, the administration has failed to act on the issue. “During the course of this inordinate and painful delay, even the sub-committee report remains shrouded in secrecy,” Mufti said.

The PDP leader further accused the government of continuing recruitment processes that are “completely lopsided,” leaving Open Merit candidates at a staggering disadvantage.

“Politicians have the luxury to even watch paint dry because their careers span decades,” Mufti remarked. “But every single day that the NC government has dragged its feet to fulfil its promises to OM students has been a criminal delay, leaving their future in abject darkness.”

Mufti reiterated her party’s support for the students’ demands and urged the government to make the sub-committee report public and restore fairness in the recruitment system to safeguard the interests of deserving candidates.
