Gulmarg: A group of tourists staying at the Royal Park Hotel in Gulmarg on Saturday said they were asked to vacate the property after the Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA) took control of the hotel following the expiry of its lease.
Among them, a female tourist from Delhi, identified as Sangeeta, was hospitalized after her blood pressure shot up during the incident. She told reporters that officials entered their rooms and instructed them and other guests to leave immediately. “I was here with my children to enjoy my vacation. Suddenly, officials came and asked us to vacate the rooms. I felt harassed and my health deteriorated,” she said, demanding justice.
The incident comes a day after Ziraat Times reported that the GDA had formally taken over the Royal Park Hotel following the lapse of its lease agreement. Officials said the action was part of a broader policy to reclaim government-owned assets in Gulmarg and put them to better use.
While the administration maintained that the tourists were provided assistance in relocating, some visitors expressed dismay at the manner in which they were asked to leave, calling it abrupt and unsettling.
The GDA has not issued an official statement yet on the tourists’ allegations of harassment.
