Srinagar: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday arrested a Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS) officer in Srinagar on charges of accepting a bribe.
Officials identified the accused as S. Ahmad, currently serving as State Sales Tax Officer at the Silk Factory office in Solina, Srinagar. He was allegedly caught red-handed while demanding and receiving a bribe of ₹20,000.
Sources said the trap was laid following a specific complaint. Acting swiftly, CBI sleuths apprehended the officer inside his office premises. “The officer was taken into custody immediately after the transaction, and the bribe money was recovered from him,” an official confirmed.
The agency has registered a formal case and launched further investigations to determine whether the accused was involved in similar acts of corruption.
Officials noted that the arrest is part of the CBI’s ongoing drive to curb corruption in government offices and enforce greater accountability among public officials.
