KCCI meets Customs officials, seeks boost to Kashmir’s export infrastructure

SRINAGAR: A delegation of the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), led by President Javid Ahmad Tenga, on Tuesday held an interactive meeting in Srinagar with Chief Commissioner, Delhi Customs (Preventive), Sanjay Gupta, and Commissioner, Amritsar Customs (Preventive), Alok Srivastava, who also hold charge of Jammu & Kashmir.

The meeting, attended by exporters and trade representatives from across the Valley, focused on challenges confronting the export sector in Kashmir and measures to resolve them.

KCCI representatives highlighted issues including procedural delays, inadequate infrastructure, and logistical constraints, with a particular emphasis on the long-pending demand for an Inland Container Depot (ICD) in the Valley to streamline export operations and reduce dependence on facilities outside Jammu & Kashmir.

They also called for improved airport handling facilities, enhanced safety measures for export consignments, and the creation of dedicated warehousing infrastructure at Srinagar International Airport to ensure secure storage and smooth processing of goods for international markets.

The visiting Customs officials assured that the concerns would be taken up with the relevant authorities, acknowledging the need for better export facilities to strengthen the competitiveness of Kashmiri products—especially handicrafts, handlooms, and horticulture produce—in global markets.

KCCI President Javid Ahmad Tenga expressed gratitude to the Customs officers for engaging directly with exporters in Srinagar and stressed the importance of continued interaction to create a more facilitative trade environment in the Union Territory.
