J&K Bank elevates Sunit Kumar, Imtiyaz Ahmad as Chief General Managers; 9 others promoted as GMs

Srinagar: In a significant leadership overhaul, Jammu & Kashmir Bank has elevated two of its senior executives—Sunit Kumar and Imtiyaz Ahmad Bhat—to the position of Chief General Manager (CGM), marking the reintroduction of the CGM level in the Bank’s hierarchy after over two decades.

Both officers, who began their careers with J&K Bank as probationary officers in 1989, bring more than three decades of experience. Sunit Kumar was serving as Divisional Head (Jammu), while Imtiyaz Ahmad Bhat was heading the Bank’s Strategy and IT Vertical.

The bank also promoted nine Deputy General Managers to the level of General Manager as part of its ongoing leadership succession planning. The newly promoted General Managers include Tariq Ali, Khursheed Muzaffar, Arshad Qadri, Rakesh Magotra, Ajay Kohli, Ashok Gupta, Nishikant Sharma, Mohammad Muzaffar Wani, and Altaf Hussain Kira.

Calling it a “proud moment” for the institution, MD & CEO Amitava Chatterjee said, “It is heartening to see our own officers rise through the ranks to leadership positions like Chief General Manager. I warmly congratulate Mr. Sunit Kumar, Mr. Imtiyaz Ahmad Bhat, and all other colleagues for their dedication and contributions to the Bank’s progress.”

He added that the reinstatement of the CGM level is a strategic move aimed at expanding leadership capacity at the top. “As we continue to grow our business and widen our geographical reach, a stronger leadership bandwidth is essential. Reintroducing the CGM position is part of our broader strategy to enhance succession planning and empower senior leaders to better drive business and regulatory priorities,” Chatterjee said.

The bank stated that the promotions reflect its emphasis on recognising internal talent and aligning growth with merit. Over the past four months, the Bank has promoted officers across various cadres, including 14 AGMs to DGMs, 41 Chief Managers to AGMs, 36 Senior Managers to Chief Managers, 392 Managers to Senior Managers, and 752 Assistant Managers to Manager level.

An online examination has already been conducted for fast-track promotions in the Manager and Chief Manager cadres. Additionally, promotions in the workmen cadre are also said to be in process.

The move comes as part of J&K Bank’s broader institutional strengthening efforts, aimed at building a resilient leadership pipeline to steer the organisation through its next phase of growth and transformation.
