Lal Chowk-Parimpora flyover, Panjtarni Pahalgam tunnel, Shopian-Magam road among 19  J&K projects approved

Srinagar – In a major infrastructure push for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has approved 19 mega road and tunnel projects with a cumulative cost of ₹10,637 crore and a total length of 296 km, under the 2025–26 action plan for national highways in J&K.

Among the key sanctioned projects are:

  • Construction of Peer Ki Gali Tunnel on NH-701A – ₹3,830 crore

  • Construction of Sadhana Tunnel on NH-701 – ₹3,330 crore

  • Zaznar-Shopian Section of NH-701A – ₹852 crore

  • 4-lane Flyover from Lal Chowk to Parimpora – ₹700 crore

  • Trehgam-Chamkote Section of NH-701 – ₹966 crore

  • 4-lane Magam Flyover on Narbal-Gulmarg section (NH-701A) – ₹445 crore

  • Qazigund Bypass – ₹95 crore

  • 2-lane Bridge over Rambiara at Shopian on NH-444 – ₹71 crore

Several road safety initiatives have also been included.

The Ministry has additionally sanctioned preparation of DPRs/Feasibility Studies for future national highway works over the next three years, including:

  • Widening and upgradation of NH-444 (Srinagar to Qazigund, 63 km)

  • 2L+PS road from Shopian to Magam on NH-701A (75 km)

  • Construction of 10.8-km Panjtarni Tunnel with 31-km approach road

  • Upgradation of Domail-Katra-Bamla section of NH-144 to 4-lane (82 km)

These strategically important projects are expected to boost connectivity, enhance logistics and troop mobility, and provide all-weather access across several key areas. They are also poised to connect tourism circuits, reduce travel times, and accelerate economic development in the Union Territory.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari for sanctioning the projects.

“Many of these projects will transform the economic landscape of Jammu and Kashmir and provide improved infrastructure to the people,” he said.
