Srinagar: Imtiyaz Ahmad Malik, President of the Shahre Khass Traders and Manufacturers Coordination Committee and Federations (SKTMCCF), has strongly condemned the unfortunate incident involving a Kashmiri shawl seller in Himachal Pradesh.
“We unequivocally condemn such acts. Every winter, thousands of Kashmiris travel to other cities across India to sell Kashmiri art and handicraft products, a tradition that has sustained our livelihoods for generations. What happened in Himachal Pradesh today is deeply unfortunate and unacceptable,” he stated.
He further demanded strict legal action against the accused, urging the government to take immediate cognizance of the incident. “The individual responsible for this reprehensible act should be booked under relevant sections of the law. Such incidents dent our economic activities, with nearly 80% of Kashmiris earning their livelihoods outside Jammu & Kashmir. If these acts continue, they will instill fear among our community, discouraging us from venturing out of the state and leading to further economic distress.”
In his concluding remarks, Malik expressed optimism that the administration and the government would handle this matter with the utmost seriousness and ensure the strongest possible action against those involved, directly or indirectly.
