Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah chaired a comprehensive review meeting to assess the operations of the Estates Department, directing officials to enhance efficiency and prioritize safety in infrastructure management.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister instructed officials to conduct a detailed evaluation of the accommodations assigned across Jammu and Kashmir. The move aims to eliminate redundancies and reduce unnecessary expenditures, ensuring optimal use of resources.
Omar Abdullah also emphasized the need for a survey of available office spaces in both regions to maximize utilization and streamline operations. He urged the Estates Department to prioritize the construction of earthquake-resistant and weatherproof infrastructure. The new structures should include essential facilities such as proper sewage systems, drainage, drinking water, and secure boundary walls.
Highlighting safety concerns, the Chief Minister stressed the incorporation of fire safety and escape measures in the design of all upcoming buildings. He also called for the digitization of the department’s Assets Register to ensure transparency and better management of resources.
Additionally, Omar Abdullah directed the department to conduct a safety audit of all heritage buildings under its jurisdiction. This step is aimed at preserving the region’s historical structures while ensuring they meet modern safety standards.
