Union Commerce Ministry re-authorises KCCI to issue Export Certificates in J&K

Ziraat Times News Network

Srinagar, Feb 1: The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) regained its authorization to issue Certificates of Origin (Non-preferential) to exporters in Jammu & Kashmir, bringing relief to the exporter community. The Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) issued the official notification on January 31st, 2024, reversing its earlier decision to delist KCCI due to non-compliance with online onboarding procedures.

The chamber faced delisting in September 2023, raising concerns among exporters who rely on these certificates for international trade. KCCI vehemently  challenged the claim of not receiving prior notifications, attributing the issue to a lack of communication. Over the next four months, KCCI actively pursued a review of the decision and fulfilled all necessary requirements for online onboarding, KCCI said in a statement to Ziraat Times today.

“This re-enlistment is a significant achievement  for our exporters,” said Javed Tenga, President of KCCI, while commenting on the development.

“The strenuous efforts made by the Chamber over the past few months have ensured that our members can continue their business operations smoothly”, Faiz Bakshi, KCCI General Secretary added.

The exporter community have expressed their happiness over the development, acknowledging the vital role KCCI plays in facilitating their activities. The Chamber also extended gratitude to its members for their understanding and support during the challenging period.
