Avalanche hits upper Gulmarg, 1 foreign skier reported dead, one missing

SRINAGAR: Amid the 4th edition of the Khelo India Winter Games event hosted by the J&K government, a massive avalanche occurred at the Afarwat area of the renowned ski destination Gulmarg on Thursday.

Initial reports indicate that around 2 p.m., an avalanche struck, trapping three foreigners. Tragically, one of them has been confirmed deceased, another injured, while one person remains missing.

Meanwhile, choppers have been roped in for rescue operation to find the missing person. Snowfall and low visibility have compounded rescue efforts. However, multiple government agencies, including J&K Police, are engaged in rescue efforts.
