As Srinagar-Jammu highway remains blocked; labourer dies in landslide at Ramban

 

Ramban, Feb 22: A labourer working on the restoration of Srinagar-Jammu highway was killed after he got buried under the debris of a landslide triggered by rainfall in Ramban district, officials said.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a fresh landslide occurred near Seeri along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway in Ramban district.

“One person got buried under the debris and died on the spot. The body is being shifted to the hospital,” the official said.

The deceased has been identified as Desh Pal, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, who was working as a laborer in CPPL Company, officials said.

The official further said that the highway has been closed for traffic movement due to landslides at multiple locations along the route in Ramban sector.

The restoration process of the highway is currently underway, officials said.
