PHDCCI proposes comprehensive plan to boost Srinagar exports

Srinagar: The PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry Kashmir (PHDCCI) has submitted an  intervention plan to propel the District Export Action Plan for Srinagar District. The plan, formulated after consultations with key stakeholders in the Silk Carpet, Pashmina, Walnut Wood Carving, and Paper Mache industries, was presented to District Development Commissioner Dr. Bilal Mohiudin Bhat-IAS, who also chairs the District Level Export Promotion Committee Srinagar, an press release issued to Ziraat Times said.

The key proposals include –

Empowering Exporters: PHDCCI suggests collaborating with district authorities to organize workshops and outreach programs for exporters. These programs will equip them with knowledge on export procedures, regulations, certifications, documentation, logistics, and market engagement.

Srinagar’s Export Hub: PHDCCI proposes transforming the Kashmir Haat into a designated District Export Zone, GI-Craft Market, and the “Srinagar UNESCO Creative City & Export Hub.” This initiative will create a centralized hub for export activities and showcase Srinagar’s unique crafts to the world.

Infrastructure Audit: PHDCCI recommends conducting an infrastructure assessment study to identify and address infrastructural needs of the targeted industries. This will ensure adequate support for efficient production and export operations.

Leveraging TIES Scheme: PHDCCI emphasizes utilizing the Ministry of Commerce & Industry’s Trade Infrastructure for Export Scheme (TIES). This scheme can be instrumental in developing research and development facilities, testing labs, and pack houses, all crucial for export-oriented production.

Market Intelligence: PHDCCI proposes establishing a dedicated Market Intelligence Cell to identify potential markets, analyze export trends, and develop new export-worthy products or value-added offerings.

The meeting was represented by PHDCCI General Convenor Bilal Kawoosa, Deputy Director Iqbal Fayaz Jan and EC Member Ashfaq Ahmad Shah.

PHDCCI further said that it believes that the implementation of these suggestions will significantly boost the export potential of Srinagar District and contribute to the overall growth of the region’s economy.
