Job Fair at Amar Singh College: 570 candidates shortlisted, 20 received offer letters

SRINAGAR, MAY 29: Thousands of young jobseekers flocked Amar Singh College today to seek different jobs in the Job Fair organised by Department of Employment, District Employment and Counseling Centre Srinagar.

The Job Fair was inaugurated by Director Employment Jammu & Kashmir, Nisar Ahmad Wani. The event was also attended by Joint Director Employment Kashmir Hakeem Tanveer; Deputy Director Employment Srinagar, Dr. Sheeba Inayat; Principal Amar Singh College, Sheikh Ajaz Bashir and Coordinator Placement Cell, Dr Arshid Masoodi.

Addressing the event, Director Employment interacted with job providers; inspected stalls set up by different companies in Health, Education, Insurance, Banking, Automobile, IT, skilling and other sectors, and also interacted with participants. Different Departments of Govt. had also installed stalls showcasing self employment schemes for potential entrepreneurs in the event.

Speaking on the occasion, Director Employment said that the government is facilitating the youth to get employment in various sectors.

He said the main purpose of these Job fairs is to eradicate the issue of unemployment in the Union Territory and facilitate job seekers interested in working with the private sector. He further said that the fair is aimed at bridging the gap between the job providers in different sectors and the unemployed youth of the UT.

Speaking on the occasion, Joint Director Employment highlighted the importance of the event. He deliberated upon the various departmental activities and also emphasised on self employment.

While addressing the event, Deputy Director Employment Srinagar said that such platforms are meant to provide private companies with an opportunity to exhibit their vacancies and skill set requirements and make on spot recruitments while the unemployed youth get an opportunity to interact with companies, learn about skills in demand and secure employment for themselves.

More than 2500 jobseekers participated in the event. 570 candidates were shortlisted by different companies, 20 received offer letters on spot. 30 unemployed youth were provided sanction letters of different employment schemes by different Departments. Moreover 110 candidates were selected by skill development institutions for skill upgradation training in different sectors.

The event concluded with the vote of thanks by Deputy Director Employment Srinagar.
