J&K Forest Dept launches Annual Forest Boundary Inspection

Srinagar, May 2: Jammu and Kashmir Forest Department has launched Annual Forest Boundary Inspection exercise in Kashmir region for consolidation of demarcation records and estate consolidation.

Physical verification and Inspection of Forest Boundary pillars of different Forests in different Forest Divisions is being carried out at beat, block and Range level. DFOs are inspecting one Forest each in one Range and Conservators of Forests are inspecting one Forest each in one Forest Division.

Before field verification, training and technical counselling sessions were conducted by Divisional Forest officers for frontline staff.

This exercise is expected to help create a digital database of the forest land, demarcate the forest area by erecting pillars at the locations where they are missing or obliterated or damaged,Identify the forest areas on the map that have become encroached upon owing to the missing boundaries pillars and facilitating encroachment removal and forest land consolidation, developing understanding of indicative biodiversity population in these forest areas and enhanced surveillance of forests aiding in control of forest damages.
