Ziraat Times News Network

Srinagar: The All Kashmir Transporters’ Conference held a press conference in Srinagar in which Chairman All Kashmir Transporters’ Confederation Muhammad Shafi and other officials welcomed the proposed G20 conference in Srinagar. On the occasion, the chairman said that this conference will promote business in Jammu and Kashmir, especially in the valley, and, most importantly, it will increase tourism, which will benefit everyone in the region.

On this occasion, chairman Muhammad Shafi  expressed his concern for “disturbing the transporters in different districts for no reason and said that by persecuting the transporters in this way, corruption will not end. Otherwise we the transporter are with this initiative of the government.”

He said that in no other part of the country there was a law to have a honor system on checking fitness.

“The vehicle is driven by the driver who maintains the vehicle documents.  The driver also does fitness.  So what is the need for honor in it?” He said that this “will increase bribery because when the driver is not allowed to do fitness, he will definitely be forced to pay bribe for it.”

He said that the owner of the vehicle hands over the vehicle to the driver and then it becomes his responsibility to take care of the vehicle and pay any tax due on fitness, route permit, etc.  Without naming, he said that in many districts, the officials of the transport associations are harassed by the ARTO officials and even abused.
The chairman added that this is unacceptable and they strongly condemn it.
He further said that private vehicles are being driven on the routes while the transporters pay the tax. The operation of private vehicles on the routes must be stopped.
Muhammad Shafi further said that the transporters from Karnah, Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam to Kupwara, Anantnag and Srinagar are one and they want to solve every issue by being united.  “We will support the government to prevent corruption and we are with every decision of the government as the transporters have always supported the government”, they added.
He also said that when the transporters are harassed they forced to go on strike. On the occasion he appealed the Secretary Transport and LG Manoj Sinha to intervene in this matter.
