Srinagar, June 25: Travel Agents Association of Kashmir (TAAK) has sought a decent compensation for the family of trek gudie Shakeel Ahamd died while trying to rescue a tourist at Hamwas, on Tarsar trek in Pahalgalm in Kashmir.

In a statement to Ziraat Times, TAAK President Farooq A Kuthoo, while extending the association’s  condolences to the bereaved family, said Shakeel lived up to the rich tradition of Kashmir’s age old hospitality by providing his selfless services to the trekkers up to his last moment.

“His sacrifice needs acknowledgment and, at the least, a decent compensation from the government”, TAAK said.

TAAK President said despite repeated requests by local Gujjar community members and adventure tour operators for a robust foot bridge at Hamwas river, no heed was given which resulted in this unavoidable tragedy.

TAAK also urged the administration to allow erection of the wooden footbridge at the river so that trekkers can pass the river easily without risking any such incident.
