PHDCCI Jammu team meets JMC Commissioner, discuss city development

Jammu, May 29: A PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry (PHDCCI ) Jammu Chapter delegation led by its Chair Rahul Sahai met Rahul Yadav Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation today and discussed various issues regarding the development and tourism promotion in Jammu city.

“The team, while acknowledging the good work done by JMC under the smart city project and otherwise, made several suggestions regarding all the Municipal committees of Jammu province and Jammu district which includes early completion of Smart City projects and introduction of smart meters for Auto Rickshas”, a statement received by Ziraat Times said.

Others who were part of the delegation include Kuldeep Gupta, Co-chair PHDCCI, Sanjay Aggarwal Co-chair PHDCCI and Ashish Jain.

The other issues highlighted during the meeting include:

Promoting E-Rickshas for residents and tourists, creation of Cycling Tracks and walk aways along canal from Railway Station to Channi Himmat and along Ranbir canal on Jammu Akhnoor road.

Mr Sahai also said that sewerage & drainage facilities should be made in the areas which are still not covered within the city jurisdiction.

Solar is the future so solar street lights should be installed for better efficiency and saving power, directional signages mentioning places in smart city project have been installed but some are wrongly placed which are not visible and some are encroached, there is an immediate need to check this and correct.

More and more Public Toilets in PPP mode should be constructed, new defined Rehri Zones required we have a good example of rehri zone opposite church in Gandhi Nagar more are needed.

Land use should be as per master plan as on date not as per old land use records. Mr Sahai also highlighted the issue of having more and more community parkings in prominent colonies like Gandhi Nagar, Nai Basti, Channi Himmat, Trikuta Nagar, old city as people are parking vehicles on roads which in result is choking the roads.

Sahai suggested one single window Nodal Agency should be there to coordinate and address all the issues and grievances pertaining to utilities like water, electricity, sewage, drainage, roads etc.

Sahai highlighted burning issues of Transport Nagar and requested his personal visit there and said that Transport Nagar is neglected from a long time, which is in the heart of city and not even clean. Revenue could be generated from the area, it is deprived of sanitation, street lights. While the area is having 2000 shops 50 C&F’s but still no facility. JMC started door to door garbage collection by auto’s 3 months back, people started paying charges too, but service stopped reasons unknown requested him to have a separate meeting on the issue. Lot of encroachment is there on roads, Rehires are free on roads need immediate attention. Old Illegal vehicle dumping on main roads of Transport Nagar and encroachment. Shulabh shauchalayas on PPP mode are required as area is of high public movement.

Rahul Yadav Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation appreciated the work done by PHDCCI in J&K as well as at the national Level. He assured Sahai that it is a beginning and regular interactions would be held on different sectors and issues, the statement added.
