Srinagar-Sharjah flights to resume; Go First gets nod for 5 weekly flights

Ziraat Times News Network

JAMMU, APRIL 29: The Ministry of Civil Aviation has approved the Srinagar-Sharjah flights to the extent of 5 flights per week on a regular basis.

Pertinently, the direct air link between the valley and the UAE had got paused recently again after a successful run, disappointing international travellers to and from J&K, who had experienced considerable ease of travel with direct Srinagar-Sharjah connectivity.

On Friday, Go First Spokesperson told PTI that the airline has got the bilateral rights to operate five flights per week on Srinagar-Sharjah-Srinagar route.

“We will restart flights on this route in the next few days. However, the frequency is yet to be decided,” the spokesperson said.

The bilateral agreement decides how many total flights (or seats) per week can be allowed to fly from one nation to another.

Even after such flying rights have been secured, an airline must have slots at both the airports in order to start flight operations.

The Srinagar-Sharjah flight was revived after 11 years in October 2021 by the union government.  It is believed that  the facility has immense potential to strengthen J&K’s ties with the Gulf region, creating market linkages and enabling direct export of J&K’s Agriculture, Horticulture & Handicraft products.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha has expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and observed that regular International flights between Srinagar & Sharjah will help in boosting trade and tourism.
