Unexpected heavy rains being cheer to Kashmir farmers

Srinagar, Sep 11: Unexpected rains on two consecutive days brought cheer to farmers of Kashmir Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir has surpassed the monthly average rainfall after Kashmir parts received light to moderate rains since Friday evening, bringing down the temperature in the Valley.

Even as the Met Department had predicted no “major rainfall” for ten days in Kashmir region, heavy rainfall occurred in almost entire valley on Friday and Saturday.

The intermittent moderate rainfall since Friday evening has brought the temperature further down across the Valley and brought cheer to farmers whose crops were almost ready but badly required some moisture for improved results.

The 2-day rain spell has also helped in improved fruit quality in karewa rain-fed lands, which have been witnessing a long hot and dry spell.

According to the details available, Srinagar has recorded 22.2 degree Celsius temperature on Saturday while highest was recorded in Kupwara in northern Kashmir where mercury settled at 25.3 degree Celsius.

The lowest day temperature was recorded at world famous ski-resort, Gulmarg at 13.4 degree Celsius.

MeT spokesman informed that till 05:30 PM, Srinagar recorded 6.0 mm rainfall while Gulmarg received 16.0 mm. He further informed that Qazigund and Pahalgam in Southern Kashmir received 11.6 and 7.9 mm rainfall from 08:30 AM to 05:30 Pm today. —(With KNO inputs)
