Srinagar, 1 Sept: Syed Ali Shah Geelani, prominent Kashmiri leader and chairman of Tehreek-i-Hurriyat Kashmir has passed away this evening in Srinagar.
His family members confirmed that the leader had passed away this evening peacefully at his Hydeprora residence in Kashmir’s capital- Srinagar.
His son Syed Naseem posted this message on his Facebook wall moments earlier.
Mr Geelani, who remained confined to his Hyderpora house for several years lately, was unwell for a long time.
Born on September 29, 1929, Mr Geelani remained a dominant political figure for many years in Kashmir’s political landscape.
There is no confirmation from his family as of now about the leader’s final resting place.
