3 Kashmiris stuck in Kabul are safe, families urge evacuation

Srinagar, Aug 16: Three people from Kashmir are believed to be in Kabul Afghanistan right now, and are reported to safe. Their families have approached the union government to include them in the evacuation list of the individuals marked for air evacuation.

Among three three people stuck in Kabul right now, two are academics, who teach at Bakhtar University in Kabul. The third one is a woman, who is the wife of one of the academics.

Family sources of the three individuals told Ziraat Times that they are distressd with the unfolding situation in Afghanistan, and have requested the Indian government to evacuate them and as soon as it is safe to do so.

There are unconfirmed reports of more people from J&K working in Kabul. However, no contact could be established with them as of now.

Meanwhile, the union government today announced a new category of electronic visa to fast-track applications from Afghans who wish to leave the Taliban-controlled country. The new visa category is called “e-Emergency X-Misc Visa”.

India said it would “facilitate repatriation to India of those who wish to leave Afghanistan” and said Hindus and Sikhs from the country will be given priority. “The government will take all steps to ensure the safety and security of Indian nationals and our interests in Afghanistan,” foreign ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi told reporters.
