Several J&K officers to be inducted into IAS

Ziraat Times Exclusive

Srinagar: Jammu & Kashmir government is likely to induct several Kashmir Administrative Service (KAS) officers into Indian Administrative Service (IAS).

Manoj Divedi, Principal Secy, General Administration Department, J&K, while announcing this on his Twitter account on Monday morning, said that “stagnation of Jammu & Kashmir Administrative Service officers is being addressed. In last 2-3 months 200+ have got promoted. More in offing. Their induction into IAS is under process.”

Pertinently, the process of induction of KAS officers into IAS based on a transparent system of merit assessment and performance appraisal was on hold for many years now.

Senior KAS officers who spoke to Ziraat Timeson this said that their induction into IAS was a long-pending demand, and the initiation of this induction process will be welcomed.

Political, business and industrial observers have often been advocating for a bureaucratic system in J&K based on merit and performance to improve the quality of governance, rather than pure year-based seniority, which, as per observers, has often been hindering the quality design and implementation of public schemes, projects and programs, jeopardising overall development objectives and efficient use of resources.
