Private schools ask J&K Govt to reconsider screentime order

Ziraat Times News Network

Srinagar: The Private Schools’ Association Jammu and Kashmir has assured the administration that it will extend every kind of cooperation in order to take the education sector to new heights and making the digital learning a successful means of imparting education to the children.

A spokesperson of PSAJK has assured the department of School Education that it will abide by all the rules and regulations set by the Government because both the government sector and the private schools are on the same page when it comes to provision of quality education to the children of Jammu and Kashmir.

The spokesperson has said that it has already submitted a detailed suggestive report to the Directorate of School Education regarding grade wise and age appropriate screen timing during online classes and the report has been prepared on the basis of suggestions and recommendations by eminent educationists, child psychologists, mental health experts and academicians from across the globe.

“Most of the experts have recommended two hours screen time for pre-primary children, 3 hours for classes 1 to 4, four hours for classes 5 to 8 and five hours screen time for classes 9 to 12. These sessions can include fun based learning ( eg: salt tracing, clay moulding, dough making, hand printing, treasure hunts, rhyming hunts role plays) followed by art integrated worksheets based on visual perceptions, fine motor skills, pictorial representations etc.”, the spokesperson said.

“Classes 5 to 8 are important as they lay foundation for future learning and missing on anything in these years will lead to the discrepancy in learning process of a child. The sessions can be planned in such a way that they build their confidence, enhance their vocabulary, intensify their mental ability and accelerate their capabilities. Similarly, in case of classes 9 to 12, the syllabus has to be completed; they need sufficient time to cover it in the online sessions. So the duration can’t be reduced beyond it until CBSE or BOSE decide to reduce the syllabus”, the spokesman added.

PSAJK hopes that Government will give due consideration to the suggestions and come up with a clear cut decision so that the digital platforms of teaching-learning process are made more viable and easier, the statement added.
