Srinagar: Amid lockdown and unfavourable seasonal changes, Kashmir cherry rates have doubled in comparison to the last year.
Talking to a news agency Kashmir News Observer ( KNO), a fruit dealer Athar Mir said that the production of cherry as compared to last year is less due to inconsistent weather condition.
“Various areas were affected due to hail and fluctuating weather. Cherry fruit requires a constant temperature for proper and perfect growth,” Mir said.
“Last year cherries were sold at Rs 75 per kg and this year it is Rs 150 per kg.”
Notably, street vendors selling fruits are facing hardships as two days open in a week is not conducive to selling cherries on carts because of their short lifespan and cold storage challenges. —(KNO)
