Centre asks states to prioritise 2nd dose of vaccines; J&K reports shortage

ZT WEB DESK

New Delhi: The central government today asked States to prioritise the second dose of Covid vaccines and allocate minimum of 70% vaccines from the Centre for the second dose.
These directions have come after the Centre today conducted a detailed review to assess the progress of Covid vaccination in states and UTs.
Informed sources in J&K’s health department maintain that second dose vaccination for many people in J&K is missing the due date because of the non-availability of the vaccines.
“My due date for the second dose was on May 11. However, when I tried to register myself two days ago on COWIN, there were no slots available”, Fareeda Bano, 52, from Srinagar said.
There are similar reports from Jammu where people are reporting inability to get slots for their second dose.
“As per my first dose certificate, my second dose was due for May 9. However, I have been unable to get a slot nearby so far”, Rajesh Kumar, a resident from Jammu city told Ziraat Times.
Meanwhile, centre has asked states to focus on minimum vaccine wastage and do regular follow up with vaccine manufacturers.
