J&K Govt doubles stipend for handicrafts and handloom trainees

Srinagar, Jan 28: Jammu & Kashmir administration has announced doubling of the stipend provided to handicrafts and handloom trainees at the various centres of the Handicrafts and Handloom Department of the government.

In an order issued by the Commissioner Secretary to J&K government, Manoj Divedi, the government has accorded sanction to the enhancement of the rate of stipend from Rs 500 to Rs 1000 and Rs 700 to Rs 1500 in elementary and advanced courses for handicrafts respectively.

Rates have, likewise, been enhanced from Rs 500 to Rs 1000 and Rs 700 to Rs 1500 in handloom courses as well.

Meanwhile, Director Handicrafts and Handloom Department, Mahmood Ahmad Shah, told Ziraat Times that this measure will help in encouraging more youngsters to enrol for various training programs of the department, while, at the same time, help the existing trainees take care of some of their living expenses during their training programs.

“It is an important step of the government, and we hope that this measure will be a key step in reviving interest among youngsters towards J&K’s famed handicrafts and handlooms”, he added.
