Lakhs of livelihoods at stake in Pahalgam-Gulmarg land lease: PHDCCI J&K

ZT NEWS NETWORK

Srinagar: The lessees of Pahalgam and Gulmarg whose lease have expired have appealed to the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene in the recent judgment of J&K High Court regarding land lease of Pahalgam and Gulmarg.

“The members of PHDCCI-Kashmir who are the primary stakeholders in Pahalgam and Gulmarg, said that the Tourism Sector of J&K after August 5, 2019 was waiting for the dawn of a new era, which the Prime Minister promised on August 8, 2019 but the recent High Court orders are bleeding us and are inflicting more wounds to the Tourism Sector of J&K”, PHD Chamber Kashmir said in a press statement.

“The chamber believes that the addressing of livelihood issues, improvement of the rule of law, proper implementation of laws and fighting of corruption should be at the cornerstone of the Government’s agenda, whereas the drafting of a robust economic development strategy and resolving the issues of businesses should be one of the very first priorities of the Government”, it further said.

The press statement further said “ultimately, the entrepreneurs and businessmen are the only victims of mismanagement, endemic corruption, and the poor business policies in the J&K which have adversely hampered the entrepreneur of J&K since the past seven decades. The Policies of the past governments have largely failed to address our business grievances including negligence of renewal of lease agreements and Tourism Policies. Further the Continuous business interruptions have resulted in accumulation of huge business losses to the stakeholders, despite that we tried our level best to remain ethical business in a corrupt Environment. Moreover, the abrogation of Article 370 hurt us badly, as it did all Kashmir’s. But at the same time, we were hopeful, even sure that the government of India, at least for the sake of development and employment generation and for creating livelihood avenues, would provide healing touch to the tourism sector.”
